My Rights

Oklahoma Gun Law

The right to bear arms is a fundamental right protected by both the United States Constitution and the Oklahoma Constitution. In Oklahoma, individuals have the right to own and possess firearms for a variety of lawful purposes, including self-defense, hunting, and target shooting.

Under state law, individuals who are at least 21 years old and are not otherwise prohibited from owning a firearm may carry a handgun openly or concealed without a license. However, there are certain places where firearms are prohibited, such as schools, courthouses, and government buildings.

Oklahoma also has a “Stand Your Ground” law, which allows individuals to use deadly force in self-defense if they reasonably believe it is necessary to protect themselves or others from imminent harm. However, this law does not apply to individuals who are engaged in criminal activity or who are using their firearm in a reckless or negligent manner.

In addition to state laws, federal laws also regulate the ownership and possession of firearms in Oklahoma. For example, individuals who have been convicted of certain felonies or domestic violence offenses, or who have been deemed mentally unfit to own a firearm, are prohibited from possessing guns.

Overall, while the right to bear arms is protected in Oklahoma, there are certain laws and regulations in place to ensure that firearms are used responsibly and only for lawful purposes.
